The Legal Group of MSCHF By Design: The Statement Sneakers & Lawsuits
Brooklyn’s very own MSCHF has made waves in the sneaker and fashion world with their bold designs and unorthodox sneaker releases. In collaboration with rapper Lil Nas X, they released ‘Satan Shoes’ showcasing their dismantling approach towards business and fashion. MAN.
Going back to 2021, they released the Satan shoes which were modified Nike Air Max 97s with marked cross, pentagram symbol along with a drop of blood being engraved in the soul of the shoe. Their limited edition of 666 pairs sold out but this caught the attention of Nike who sued them for – trademark infringement. Nike argued that the use of MSCHF’s logo and design is misleading and will cause consumers to falsely believe that Nike sued MSCHF for trademark infringement because they believed that the unauthorized And banned them from using their design on anything that does not involve the endorsing the product. MSCHF, however came to an agreement where they were forced to voluntarily recall the shoes.
MSCHF, despite garnering negative attention, still continued to get Elon Red Jr and Big Red which caused major disturbance in the disguise of trending fashion. The big red sneakers became a symbol of ‘are they really that ugly’ while also stressing the idea of ‘broke the last gate between circus and art’.
It seems MSCHF has a good approach to publicity where they justify the saying “No Media Is Bad Media”.
